Line Marie Thorsen

PhD Researcher in the AURA Project

This project researches how contemporary artists across Europe and East Asia variously engage, articulate, conceive and shape notions of global climatic and environmental issues, into their local settings and ecologies. To this end, four key sites take on a role of case studies: France, Germany, Hong Kong and Japan. In France my focus includes artists working in the context of the COP21 summit in December 2015; in Germany, the on going Anthropocene Project at Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin; in Hong Kong, artists invested in local issues of environmental damage, food security and of democratic representation; and in Japan, artists engaged in rural revitalisation efforts through attention to local ecological practices and cultural identity tied to concepts of nature.
